WTF? Sly played? How did I not know about that? I guess I can comfort myself with the knowledge that he was almost certainly utterly rubbish. Still, might have been interesting.

WTF indeed. Sly Stone. In Hackney. The “Family Stone” (2 original members and a bunch of competent session musicians by the sound of it) played a load of hits, Sly eventually shuffled on for two songs, announced he “needed to go for a piss”, then came back on later for just 2 more.
Shame really, as when he sang I got shivers down my spine - the voice was still there.

Mmmm. The vocals on (the recorded versions of) “If You Want Me To Stay” and “Family Affair” are probably the most spine-tingling, outrageously good performances in all of music (That I can think of).

It was “If You Want Me To Stay” that did it for me…they were due to play “Family Affair”, but (perhaps due to one wanky session muso solo too many) they overran.
