Ignore that tag that says “album review” (even more than you usually would).  This is even less of an album review than all of the others which bask in the overinflated self-importantness of that title.  Think of it more as a public service announcement, but by someone who couldn’t be bothered creating a new category for such posts.

My message is this: we had Glockenspiel in the Resonance FM studio on Monday night for the gLASSsHRIMP show (what do you mean you weren’t listening?  You would have heard me leaving the studio mikes up through an entire record. God bless the Arts Council for funding such ineptitude).  They are Steve D’Enton on drums and Adrian Dollemore on guitar and a box of effects pedals the size of Equatorial Guinea. They were bloody good.  You should listen to them. Helpfully, Krayon have put up a couple of tracks for you to do so: “FAI” from their Enspiel album of last year, and the magnificent “Glock No. 1” from the previous year’s 24:48 EP.

To be honest, good as they are, those recorded versions don’t quite do them justice; heard live I can attest to them being a delicious mix of Stars Of The Lid drones (funnily enough, they are supporting them), kraut rhythms (well, the drummer used to be in Peel faves Quickspace), free improv (apparently there are recordings of them playing with Ashley Wales, John Edwards and Tony Bevan…wow!) and epic distortion. They are playing a few gigs around the South of this fair land soon (see the list at their myspace), so citizens of Bournemouth, Winchester, Brum, Oxford and dear old London town*, you have no excuse.

*Unless, like me, you have already booked for the Raster-Noton gig on the ICA that night
