I've seen so many bands do that kind of performance whilst crouching on the floor, rendering them invisible to all but the front row, that I felt (relatively) energised just by virtue of the fact that they were standing up and I could see them. And come on, they did have a big bit of wood that was BADLY NAILED TOGETHER! How exciting is that?

I was at this show - I enjoyed Four Tet and basically agree with your thoughts on the DJs. I'm sorry to say I just didn't get Sunburned Hand of The Man. This isn't because of an aversion to abstract or improvised music (far from it, my tastes veer increasingly in this direction lately) - but simply with tha nature of the performance. The circular gathering at the start seemed like a rejection of any need to involve the audience and, perhaps as a result, the drones seemed to me entirely unengaging. It was only when the pace increased and the group started experimenting more with rhythm that I really switched on.

DJs opening for bands has never been a good experience for dancing. When I saw Daft Punk, I don't think that many people even noticed that Sebastian and Kavinsky happened to be DJing.
